i just stumbled upon this web page and i thought i would point you all in the direction of some very useful information

http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm

just select YOUR router from that list and then select the application you want to configure on the next page. You will (in most cases) be provided with step by step guides with screen shots.

@ Joe:

Do you see the white tick in a green circle that I referred to in my earlier post in uTorrent?

Also, if you're using DSL, is your DSL router setup for port forwarding?

@ Joe:

To determine if all is indeed working well with uTorrent download a very popular torrent (the latest Prison Break) for example.

Such files are HOT and are guaranteed to have thousands of seeds and peers. Start your download and check what happens. If peers start dropping like flies it could indicate a problem with your setup. If your download speed starts to increase and eventually average out to anywhere near your maximum DL speed then your setup is fine.

Also, uTorrent has a neat little indicator at the bottom of the screen, left of your Download speed that tells you if all is well. What you want to see is a white tick in a green circle. If you see that then all is well with your torrent setup!

torrents are frequently not finding peers!! (with utorrent)
i mean all of the torrents i'm downloading open at maximum 3 peers for a few minutes and then they disappear
could it be because of a router that's blocking me or is it only because of the torrent and it's availability

Joe R - You will find the setting for max half open TCP here as max_halfopen_tcp. This value has to be set as 80. Did you try the complete tips? BTW, did you check out about portforwarding?

I will agree with you. That makes a big difference between Demonoid and other torrent tracker sites. Port forwarding too will have a big impact on the DL speed
